Oh, an important thing about today that I forgot…
I drew a well good picture of Buzz Lightyear.
I really don’t know why I haven’t got my own sticker chart to mark these kinds of achievements on. Someone should be rewarding me for things like this, surely?
My girlfriend and I wanted to cuddle, but we wanted to play Diablo too. This is what happened.

Today was brilliant.
It started off a bit awkwardly. We were supposed to dress up for the Jubilee ‘street party’ in school, but last night I had BSL and came home too tired to actually find my clothes, and then despite trying to pre-plan, the whole change in routine really threw me. Having to wear different clothes made the morning run less smoothly, but I’d so committed to making the effort that I couldn’t quite bring myself to just abandon the idea. I was worried about turning up and being really undressed and feeling like a bit of a killjoy, and turning up and being really overdressed and feeling like a prize prat.
Then, by the time I’d found all the clothes, and put them on, and managed to include Jubilee colours (one red and white hi-top, one blue and white hi-top, I’m a genius!), it was too late to back out because I obviously needed to get my arse to work (and the rest of me, my arse wouldn’t be much use on its own).
So, turned up, saw that most of the kids were just wearing jeans and then red or blue t-shirts and the like and felt a bit of a wally (well, a dapper wally, I mean I was wearing a waistcoat, you can’t argue with the dapperness), but I got loads of compliments (being told by a six year old, “You look smart!” in a very grown up tone is honestly more brilliant than it probably reads) and they all wanted to try my flat cap on (bringing grandad fashion to the next generation).
Lunchtime involved lots of tables being put in the playground and some PE mats as well, and the staff was expected to eat with the children. I used to eat my lunch with the kids, anyway, so as to avoid the staffroom, and now I eat on my own in the classroom because I need the space and the quiet time, but also, my class eat their lunch while I’m on playground duty so I was quite looking forward to all eating lunch together. We were late out and so we got left with the mats (but that was fine). My mum works in the kitchen on another site and had phoned over to ask our kitchen staff to send me over a lunch, so even though I had some lunch that I’d brought (she made me a sandwich in case I didn’t like the school lunch, haha), I ended up digging it because there was a Jubbly in there. A strawberry and banana smoothie one that was a little bit melty, it was ace! So we sat and ate lunch, listening to The Beatles, then we played, and although that was sort of like a regular playtime, other than the tables and suchlike, and clothes, and bunting, and the kids wearing crowns and waving their little flags that they’d made, it felt different, but in a good way. Lunchtime flew by, it was lots of fun.
Then there were a few birthdays in our class, for today and tomorrow, and we had to give out birthday cake (and I got a piece), and then give out some more individual cakes, and then give out party bags. So the novelty of the day just kept on going!!
I came home, got changed, watched the episode of Big Bang Theory from last night, drove my dog to the country park, came home and had Indian food for dinner, and all in all I feel the day was a success.
The one downside would be the hay fever, which kicked in worse after getting home from the park and after having eaten. I now have a runny nose and a very itchy/watery right eye. But let’s not let that spoil it!
